Welcome to the final bank holiday weekend with us here at Mendips and we have a busy old weekend with plenty at stake. Track championships to be sorted out, destruction the way forward, we're in for a cracker of twin
set of meets!
The F2 season at Mendips concludes with a cliff hanger! 10 drivers could mathematically win the track championship. Matt Stoneman (127) leads Dan Roots (776) by two points, with Steve Gilbert (542), Kasey Jones (286)and form man Dan Kent (976) are serious contenders for that. Speaking of Kent, 2 finals here in 5 days – the proverbial bus, you wait ages for and then 2 come along at once for the Clevedon driver. White and yellow graders have a few Brucie bonuses as they are racing for the annual Whites and Yellows championship, with plenty of tyres up for grabs. Alfie Brimble (235) was impressive at the Pink Ribbon meeting and followed it up with 2 heats and a second in the final at the recent St Day. Matt Stone (510) also showing good form. The Marion Bennett Trophy, rounds out the season in style.
The stars of tomorrow are certainly rocking their way this season and Charlie Cocks (162) leads the way from Max Barraclough (314) on what has been a somewhat turbulent season so far. Indeed on their last outing both Cocks and Barraclough were victorious, but on Summer Special night – there could only one winner Summer Jeanes (133) showing the boys how it was done in a excellent showing of defensive driving. For those drivers a final chance to get some points on the board for the West of England!
The nudge and spin merchants are back to play again on a fun afternoon where the heats are a mere smorgasbord for what is to come. Fresh from the hinderance of having our banger mic man and general banger-orak Jamie Waller Jones, in last Wednesday’s rookie outing, Louis Tomlinson (105) and Bradley Melksham (601) lead the way in their Red and White rookies. Lady racer and mean woman with a paint brush, Abi Deeprose (962) finally killed off the Focus which took part in our Presentation
Evening in February. Points champion Harrison Staples (2) continues his excellent form and truly is the one to beat at present, along with father Barry Staples (23) – it will take a true staple remover to remove them from the podium
Round 3 of the Mark Loader Roofing sponsored Summer Series is the penultimate round for the non contact tin top tearaways. Following round 1, which saw wins for Dan Latimer (720) and newcomer ex Rookie Jody Jeanes (133) make best use of their mothers advice to eat their carrots, as the meeting was in somewhat limited visibility before the infamous Mendips Mist came to scupper proceedings. Round 2, was in much better weather as finally track champion Jason Oliver (303) found some form and speed in his new BMW but Jeanes and Andrew Bressington (278) and Tom Bristow took the wins. With the final being part of the Champions' Weekend, all important points are up for grabs
The end finale of the season for the wibbly wobbly warriors sees the points up for grabs for both the entertaining and the racing. Leading the points is points champion Tom Weekes (100) who has a slight advantage over Matt Capel (518). Billy McDade (87) is likely not to be caught in the Antipodean stakes – he’s been upside down more than the rest this season!
The ladies will be looking to show the men up, Stacey Howe (119) has been an ever present for many years, trophy girl come robin roller Immy Loader (669) and Mrs Macca Pacca – Keira Williams (114) will need to check to see if her other half will hold her hand
The season concludes with the heart stopping figure of 8 race, and concluding with a precursor to the sea of fibreglass to come -a DD.
The moment you’ve all been waiting for, especially if any of you have been stuck behind the fibreglass formed fiends on the highways and byeways of the country. Jack-knifing is actively encouraged as a dozen of those darned wobbleboxes will finally meet their maker! Last year, it was F2 Driver – and current man of the moment Dan Kent (976) who found the fastest way through the fibreglass. Give our champs a proper cheer as they go round
It’s the Champions Weekend – and the thunder returns to the hills. The National Bangers Champion of the World takes the page on the Sunday night, but the Saturday sees the V8 Hot Stox return for their World Final. Support comes from Special Rods, ORCi Ministox and the mighty Saloon Stock Cars. A true golden weekend- camp out and enjoy both days! Until then
Cheers n gone
