Sunday 19th Marc is our opening meeting of 2017, and what a massive meeting it looks to be, with over 90 drivers in the Micro Massacre for National Bangers, and good support from the three other formulae that are racing. Micro Bangers are easy to build and all action, and very popular with drivers and spectators alike, so we plan to run three meetings for them in 2017.

The Outlaw Hot Rods should see an increase in numbers, as there are at least two new drivers, plus some returnees to the formula. Matt Buckland(81) has a Zetec powered Corrado, and Neil Muddle (35) has a new car, and Jamie Oates(4) took to the track on Practice Day with a very pretty car, although the wet weather did not allow him to show its full potential. James Griggs(258) will be looking for a hat trick of wins in the Points Championship, and Mendips favourite Colin White(718) will also be racing when his circuit racing schedule permits.
The Heritage Stock Cars will be bringing a nostalgic feel to the track, with their ancient sidevalve powered machines recall the early days of stock car racing. One of the Pioneer drivers in the formula, Pete Welland(264) is commemorated today in the inaugural running of his Memorial Trophy, and we welcome his widow Susie and his son Mark to make the presentations. Driver travel a great number of miles in this regime, and race from Scotland to Cornwall, so there is a great deal of dedication. We especially welcome Mark Loader (444), a long serving racer here at Mendips, who is trying his hand with Heritage racing with a car formerly owned by Jason Lamburn.
Third of our four formula thriller is the Junior Rods-the class for youngsters from 11 to 16 years of age. With the retirement of Becky Pearce(66) and Adam Headland(108), Dant Kent(376), Jacob Anderson(285) and Josh Weare(36) will be looking to establish them selves at the top of the points. Four new drivers are set to debut, and we will wish them luck and lots of enjoyment.
On to the bangers entry, which is even bigger than 2016, and features an massive invasion by drivers from over the bridge-South Wales-which is spear headed by the Welsh Roughnecks who were in the thick of the action last year. We have drivers from all overtaking part, and we welcome them all. Joint Points Champions Macauley Mills (440) and Dean Quinn(27) will be keen to make their mark, and in such a huge field, their back of grid starts may well be useful when it comes to missing the carnage!. The meeting closes with a Destruction Derby, which will be well populated and savage!
