REPORT: Sunday 30th June 2019
It was a warm and dry afternoon with dry track conditions.
45 Bangers turned up including 10 of the Gladiator team from Essex, with 24 drivers from various tracks seeded into the BBA National Bangers English Championship, with further places up for grabs in the Last Chance race. There was a good mix of cars with a lot of Ford Mondeos, some Ford Sierra Hatch Backs and Estates, Focus, Vauxhall Cavaliers, Astra Hatchbacks and Estates, 01 had a Ford Cougar and 242 John Quinn had a Wheelchair Conversion amongst other cars.
About 20 cars came out for a lively Last Chance race with most of the action on the pit bend with only 5 cars making the distance led home by 410 Dan Galley, from 403 Marcus Strawlings, then 161 Charlie Hutson. 28 cars came out for the BBA English Championship in a lively race with only 8 cars making the distance, 186 Sophie Fasey led for a while then she was spun towards the wall, then J.Quinn was spun and T-Boned heavily by 340 Wes Freestone, there was a stoppage for J. Quinn who was ok. 549 Phil Smith led the Re-Start from 133 Terry Hill, and amongst the action 252 Boogie was heavily introduced to the wall, 100 Alec Jenner made it up to 3rd and squeezed up the inside of Hill to take 2nd, then Jenner shoved Smith wide to take the lead then onto win from, 570 Jordan Cumming, then Smith. 30 cars came out for the 1st All-comers race which was very lively with a lot of big hits going in mostly on turnstile bend, and with the Gladiators trying to wipe the field out then 349 Lewis ‘Noddy’ Price competed a complete rollover, 548 Jamie Avery led the re-start then there was another stoppage for 784 Henry Murray who was ok. 333 Charlie Randell led the re-start as Avery decided to pull off, then there was another stoppage which Randell led, Randell was putting up a good fight to the Gladiators, but only two cars made the distance which was Smith, from Strawlings which were both Gladiators, 19 Cars came out for another lively 2nd All-comers Race with another 3 cars waiting for the D/D with a lot of big hits, the Gladiators had their cards marked and were getting a lot of attention with Boogie and Scratch putting up a good fight 6 Cars made the distance which was led by 961 Brad Deeprose In the D/D Hutson put Noddy (Gladiator) on his roof the D/D ended with a gentle head-on between two Gladiators which 542 Craig Oliver took the win.
24 Special Rods turned up which were running a 2/3rds Format with the non-qualifiers starting at the back in the Final, In the 1st Heat 768 Joe Delahaye took a flag to flag victory 720 Dan Latimer made it up to 4rd from 14th on the grid then D.Latimer tried to go round the outside of 644 Wayne Thomson but couldn’t make it stick then 181 Ian McLaren went round the outside of Thomson, then 175 Kevin Oliver and as McLaren was nearly passed Oliver they touched and McLaren went sideways but managed to hang on!! On the last lap 362 Aaron Loader and 364 Darren Feltham had a coming together, Delahaye took the win from McLaren, then 81 Andy Hawkins, 701 Ben Brice and 41 Dene Howard came home 6th and 7th, from the back of the grid. In the 2nd Heat 135 Jim Cannon found way past Oliver and built up a big lead, McLaren had a spin (with help?), and Brice made it up to 3rd from near the back of the grid mostly on the outside then Brice went round the outside of Oliver for 2nd , Brice caught Cannon on the last lap. Cannon took the win. In the 3rd Heat Cannon went round the outside of Delahaye to take the lead and built up a big lead, 556 Stuart Garland ended up facing the inner tyres on the turnstile bend, and later Hawkins got squeezed into the fence, A.Latimer made it up to 3rd A.Latimer went round the outside of Delahaye and after a few laps side-by-side Latimer made it stick Brice made it up to 3rd from last on the grid with a few laps left and Brice tried to go round the outside of A,Latimer but Latimer pipped Brice to the post, and Cannon took the win. In the Final Delahaye took the early lead from Oliver, and A.Latimer and McLaren got up to 3rd and 4th, then Latimer and Mclaren went round the outside of 44 Sam Howard had a spin and a few others tangled Delahaye led the re-start from Latimer, then McLaren, Latimer went round the outside of Delahaye to take the lead, and McLaren nipped up the inside of Delahaye for 3rd, Brice was going well until he had a coming together with Oliver, then 43 Andy Howard went round the outside of McLaren and Latimer to take the lead. The transponder was recording A.Howard as a lap down and A.Howard very sportingly accepted he was actually a lap down, which meant that A,Latimer took the win from, McLaren, then, Cannon.
18 Junior Rods turned up who raced a 2/3rds format with a qualifiers only Final, 36 Josh Weare stormed to victory in both of his Heats from the back of the grid, then broke down in the Final, and 190 Thomas Gumbleton has moved up to the Red grade in his 1st year and took a hattrick of 4th places. In the 1st Heat 26 Harry Meliville led from pole from, 16 Alistair Edgecombe , then 28 Ava Hawkins was quickly got from 7th to 3rd, then Hawkins nipped up the inside of Edgecombe, then Hawkins went round the outside of Meliville to take the lead, 75 Jack Buckingham and 100 Thomas Weeks was quick up to 2nd and 3rd from the back of the grid but Hawkins was to far ahead to catch, but unfortunately Hawkins transponder was broken so she was disqualified giving Buckingham the win from Weeks, then 599 Louis White. In the 2nd Heat Edgecombe out dragged pole sitter 610 Alfie Murray for the early lead, Hawkins was quick from 6th on the grid and went round the outside for the lead, then 8 George Jenkins nipped up the inside to lead briefly before Weare nipped up the inside of Jenkins to take the lead then on to win from Jenkins, then Hawkins. In the 3rd Heat Meliville for a while led from for pole, then White made it up from 5th to 2nd then White went round the outside of Meliville to take the lead, 214 Jude Manley hit the inner tyres and got stranded there, then Weare went round the outside of Meliville for 2nd then Weare found a way past White for the lead then went on to win from, White, then Jenkins. 15 cars came out for the Final Meliville took the early lead from pole, from 880, then White, then White went around the outside of the lead two to take the lead, then somehow Edgecombe had a big argument with the fence leading to a stoppage. White led the re-start from 880, then Hawkins, and Buckingham decided not to take the re-start. Jenkins found a way past Hawkins, and 880 for 2nd, White went on to take the win from, Jenkins, then Hawkins.
12 Stock Rods turned up including 41 Stuart Mc Kinnon and 123 Craig Tosh from Scotland. In the 1st Heat Tosh found a way past 982 Sophie Daughtrey and 770 Archie Farrell to take the lead then on to win from 909 Justin Washer, then 92 Adam Daniels. In the 2nd Heat Farrell took the early lead and Tosh got from 4th on the grid to 2nd then Tosh went round the outside of Farrell to take the lead, then Mckinnon and Washer had a coming together, then with two laps left, Daniels, and 351 Rhys Langdown nipped up the inside of Tosh for the lead, Daniels went on to win, from Langdown, then Tosh. In the Final Farrell led from pole for a few laps then Tosh went round the outside of Farrell for the lead, Mckinnon was going well until he had an off, then Farrell and Tosh had a coming together and hit the tyres giving 426 Keith Channon, the lead then Washer went round the outside of Channon to take the lead then on to win from, Langdown, then Daniels.
