Invite to support Andy Chant and Neil Dopson’s 100 mile bikathon in aid of Cancer Research!
Andy Chant is no stranger to Mendips Raceway… for 15 years he was affectionately known as ‘Mr Starter’ - The brightly dressed man who waved the flags!
Andy passed the baton on several years ago, but has kept a keen interest in the Raceway. Back in 2020 he had a medical scare which for a while sounded like the big C, but turned out to be another much less life-limiting condition. This prompted him firstly to get fit! and secondly, to do something once more to support those whose diagnoses are more challenging.
Andy Chant said 'I recently stumbled on a photo that Andy, the track photographer at the time had taken of me being chased and water pistol-ed by a much younger Dan Kent! This gave me a eureka moment!! Let's have a follow-up bike race!! It will be so good to do something again to honour our cherished memories of Leslie Maidment and Phil Cleverly - both of these men I had the privilege of knowing as friends.'
SO! - This summer he’s taking on his biggest challenge yet! Andy and his friend and fellow cycling enthusiast - Neil Dopson will be pedalling from their home town of Chard, Somerset to the Mendips Raceway track above Sidcot on the Mendip Hills.
They will head up a fancy dress charity bike race at the raceway before cycling home again! They expect to cover 100 miles that day.
We want to get behind these chaps as they take on this gruelling challenge for a brilliant cause with a target of raising £2,000!
Every penny counts!
It all takes place on Sunday August 4th 2024 which is Mendips Raceways annual 'Filo’s Crashmania - Pink Ribbon Day' fundraiser for cancer research.
